Negotiations on Visa Facilitation and Readmission agreements between the EU and Armenia started in late February 2012. A second round of negotiations took place on 26 and 27 April, and good progress has been made on both agreements. Prospects for completing those negotiations soon are good. Students, post-graduate persons and accom¬panying teachers who undertake study trips, including in the framework of exchange programmes as well as other school-related activities, are one of the groups identified as potential beneficiaries of facilitating measures under the future agreement.
As stated in the Eastern Partnership declaration signed in Warsaw in September 2011, in line with the core objective of the Eastern Partnership to enhance mobility of citizens in a secure and well-managed environment, these visa facilitation and readmission agreements are to be seen as a first step of a gradual process "...towards visa-free regimes in due course on a case-by-case basis provided that conditions for well managed and secure mobility set out in two-phase action plans for visa liberalisation are in place".
