Կարող եմ մի քանի խորհուրդ տալ դրա հետ կապված:
1. Գտնում ես լեզուն կրող որևէ դասախոս, նրա մոտ ես պարապում:
2. Ճարում ես լեզուն կրողների ձայնագրություններ (ճաշակիցդ կախված՝ երգեր, դասախոսություններ, բանաստեղծություններ, աուդիո գրքեր, ուսումնական նյութեր և այլն), լսում ես ու փորձում կրկնօրինակել նրանց արտասանությունը:
3. Իմ ամերիկուհի դասախոսն ասում էր, որ հայերի մոտ խնդիր են հիմնականում v, w, th, r հնչյունները: Ուշադրություն ես դարձնում դրանց վրա: Եթե տետրերիս մեջ գտնեմ, էդ հնչյունների հետ կապված բանավոր վարժություններ ունեմ: Կգրեմ էստեղ:

All right. So, I'm guessing there are many fluent speakers on our site. Why can't we organize a room, where we can discuss various news and events in English? That would help a great deal in learning the language proper way, the practical way. I'm no academician or a language worm by any means, but with more communication online, we can learn how proper sentencing is structured and how it is used in everyday conversational language. In addition, our practice should also benefit the intermediate speakers of this board, who may feel intimidated by using their skills online. In any case, I think it's great idea, unless there is a such a room in existence in our forum, for which I'm too lazy to look for.

I can think of one case where only the former can be used: "Do you like sushi?" "I guess"
where I don't think the response can be replaced by "I'm guessing."

But in most other cases that come to mind, both seem to work just fine (to me anyway):
"I guess this is a typo."
"I'm guessing this is a typo."
But I think there should be some difference. How are they different?

There are different usages here.
The usual or more formal meaning of guess is something like "to make a choice based on no or poor information."
This, however, is not how it is used in "Do you like sushi?" "I guess". The respondent isn't actually guessing whether they like sushi, they are just using "I guess" as a general affirmative, meaning "It's OK", or "Yes, that will do".
"I guess" is also used to indicate a mild interrogative. ("I guess you want chips for tea", "I guess you're off to work")

With regard to your original question (and assuming that we limit ourselves to the more formal meaning), "I guess" would be the normal usage ("Who is the flowers from?" "I guess they're from my husband"). "I'm guessing" would more nornmally be used to describe the act of guessing ("How are you working out the answer?" "I'm guessing.")

At least that's how it looks from my bit of the Southern England.

Don't get me wrong. You could easily replace guessing with guess and it would be just fine. But in my opinion, "I'm guessing" describes a specific act of guessing for a particular situation. Perhaps, I'm being too anal about it, but that's my story, and I'm sticking to it.
